3d effect picture frame using napkin technique

With a little soft paste on the object you're working with, the paper napkin design really stands out!3d effect picture frame using napkin technique

you will need

  • A wood picture frame with an internal measurement of 7.9 x 7.9 inches
  • a paper napkin (pick a napkin quarter with a pretty design)
  • some spray glue/varnish (ref 202 from Odif for example)
  • soft texture effect/modeling paste

making the design

3d effect picture frame using napkin techniqueStep 1 Place the paper napkin quarter in the frame. Lift up the edges, one after the other, and mark out in gray pencil the areas where you would like to create a 3D effect. Here we've marked out the scarecrow and pumpkin shapes etc...

3d effect picture frame using napkin techniqueStep 3 Separate out the layers of the paper napkin quarter. ¨Place it on a piece of cardboard, face down. Spray it with glue/varnish from a distance of 8 inches. Wait a few minutes, then place the napkin inside the frame, making sure it's straight.
If it doesn't work out first time round, you can unpeel it and try again, that's the great thing about spray glue/varnish. Gently smooth it with a cloth: look, no folds!
Now paint the sides of the picture frame, either so as to match the napkin design, or simply with a contrasting solid-color...Use acrylic paint for wood. 3D effect picture frame using the paper napkin applique technique
Once it's dry, spray the frame with the glue/varnish, this time from a distance of 16 inches.
